Familiarization of SMAW/ARC

This intensive 1-week course introduces students to the fundamentals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), commonly known as stick welding. Students will learn about safety protocols, equipment setup, and basic welding techniques, providing a solid foundation for further welding education or entry-level positions in the welding industry.

Materials Used:


Throughout the course, participants will primarily work with mild steel.

Course Outcomes :

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and apply safety procedures related to SMAW.

  • Set up and operate SMAW equipment correctly.

  • Perform basic welds on mild steel in flat and horizontal positions.

  • Identify and select appropriate electrodes for different welding applications.

  • Demonstrate basic joint preparation and welding techniques.​
